History of Belmont cigarettes

The Belmont brand is widely distributed throughout the world and is produced by various companies in various markets. Especially popular in South and Central America. In Venezuela, it was introduced in the mid-1960s by "Cigarrera Biggott Sucre CA", where it became the most popular smoking brand in the early 1980s, with about 62.4% of the market in 1982.

Belmont is also produced in Guatemala (to "Tabacalera Nacional"), Panama (to "Eastman's Tabacalera"), Honduras (to "Hondurena"), Nicaragua, and Costa Rica (where it was introduced "Republican Tobacco" in 1982) . It was also introduced to Finland by Amer-Tupakka around 1975. In Finland, cigarettes were manufactured by Philip Morris until 2004 under an exclusive license from Amerbacco Ltd., when the company abandoned the tobacco business and concentrated on sports equipment called Amer Sports.

In Canada, the Belmont was introduced in the early 1960s with a carbon filter. Benson & Hedges (Canada) Ltd. (which became Rothmans Benson & Hedges Ltd. in 1986). The brand was renamed Belmont Milds in 1975 and remained so until 2007 when such terms on tobacco packaging were removed. Around the same time, an ultra-light version (known as the Belmont Silver) was introduced. In 2009, a slim version of the Belmonts was introduced called the Belmont Edge. This brand has rarely (if ever) been promoted in traditional advertising. Today they are sold as a premium brand. It was also produced in the USA in the 1960s. Philip Morris USA.

In 1990, prior to the implementation of the Tobacco Prohibition Act, Philip Morris Australia launched a new brand, Belmont, to compete with Rothmans Winfield, "to provide a balanced, aggressive portfolio entering the era of print bans." Belmont's launch plan was classic integrated marketing, combining press inserts, point of sale, distribution and aggressive direct mail marketing to Winfield smokers, as well as premiums at convenience stores and retail outlets as incentives for both retailers and for buyers. Thirty hostesses in hotels and clubs offered samples and exchanges (a free pack of Belmont cigarettes for smokers in exchange for a pack of rival brand cigarettes), playing a "critical role in the tactical combination of bringing targeted opposition to smokers to justice, raising awareness and creating word of mouth." Brand launch reports were faxed to British American Tobacco (UK and Exports) and Biggott, the Venezuelan maker of Belmont cigarettes, the main smuggled brand. In addition, Belmonts were seen in several stores in Serbia in June 2009, with all English packaging.
